SUPPORT THE MUSEUM

The first Army Women’s Museum was a single room in the headquarters building of the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) Training Battalion, Fort McClellan, AL.  As the Museum grew, and as the role of Army women changed, the need for a dedicated museum building was identified.

The predecessor of the U.S. Army Women’s Foundation, the WAC Foundation, was founded in 1969 to lead the planning and fund raising effort for a permanent museum building.  Dedicated in 1977, the WAC Museum was the focal point for Army women’s history.  An addition, built by Army women under the leadership of the Foundation, was dedicated in 1986.  The closure of Fort McClellan made the relocation of the Museum necessary.  The Foundation again led the way supporting Museum personnel in planning and funding the packing, storage, and move of artifacts during the period between closure of the old Museum and opening of the new Museum.

The mission of the U.S. Army Women’s Foundation remains the same: to support the U.S. Army Women’s Museum.

Government funds in the annual Department of the Army budget support the Museum, however, these funds pay only part of what is required.  Government funding does not cover many essential aspects of the Museum’s operations.

Additionally, many competing operational requirements mean that sometimes essential activities are unfunded or only partially funded.  In the past year the Foundation has funded supplies, maintenance, outreach and publicity programs, exhibit fabrication and part-time employees to fill critical Museum needs.

If you’d like to support one of these, indicate the item name on the Contribute to the Foundation form and include it with your check or credit card order.  Checks should be made out to the U.S. Army Women’s Foundation.  Contributions of small amounts towards a higher priced item are both welcomed and much appreciated.
