Catherine Cornish

Catherine D. Cornish

"Winning this scholarship, especially during Women’s History Month really helps me to focus on my accomplishments as it relates to community service. The majority of people from my family who have served in the military have been men. I am one of two women that served our country in the armed forces. It makes me feel honored to be awarded this scholarship from a long line of highly accomplished and decorated Legacy of Female Warriors. Also, being a single mother raising my son to be a man, I feel that he can look at me as a positive role model."

"This scholarship will help me to finish my last two semesters and add in a few concentration classes that will enable me to study my area of interest in more detail. The army gave me the training that eventually led me to my interest in physical therapy; I'm lucky that same service is affording me the opportunity to pursue the education I need!"

"Being a recipient of the Army Women’s Legacy scholarship is an extreme honor. This scholarship will help me achieve my professional goals to become an Army Nurse by supporting my education at Carroll College."

"I will use this scholarship to fund a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to rural villages outside of Mombasa, Kenya to train women on maternal and neo-natal health care. Through this training, I will gain real-life experience teaching women who have different beliefs, languages, education, and life-styles from what I know. What means the most to me is that this scholarship will fund the empowerment of women through education."

"To have been chosen as a recipient for the Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Scholarship is a great honor that I do not take lightly. I’m sure there were many women just as worthy and I am committed to bringing honor to Women in the Army through my future service to our great country. Thank you for having faith in me and investing in my vision."

"This scholarship is a blessing and will allow me to finish up the last courses that I need to complete my degree. This will bring a huge sense of accomplishment to me and will show my son that hard work and dedication pays off. My hope is that this will encourage him to achieve his goals and dreams regardless of how difficult the challenges may be."
